What is the Biblical Dream Meaning of Washing Clothes?

Having a dream of washing clothes indicates your are under a restorative period. This is exciting because God desires you to be a spotless bride without sin when Jesus returns: “Let us rejoice and exult and give him the glory, for the marriage of the Lamb has come, and his Bride has made herself ready; it was granted her to clothe herself with fine linen, bright and pure for the fine linen is the righteous deeds of the saints.” (Revelation 19:7-9)

Christ died to cleanse believers: “Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless.”(Ephesians 5:25-27)

In Revelation 7:13-15, the blood of Christ is used as a heavy duty laundry soap that purifies our uncleanliness. The verse states: “These in white robes—who are they, and where did they come from?”…. “These are they who have come out of the great tribulation; they have washed their robes and made them white in the blood of the Lamb.” (Revelation 7:13-15)

How does washing clothes relate to my life?

The stain of your sin causes unhealthy emotions, memories, and behaviors. Unfortunately, even the sin of others can negatively harm your ability to remain pure. Therefore, every believer must be cleansed because all have fallen short of the glory of God.

Essentially, to understand your dream, evaluate your current emotions and/or spiritual struggles. Are you fighting away feelings of unbelief, distrust, selfishness, manipulation, fear, lust, control, pride, legalism, anger, shame, etc.? Fortunately, God desires to free believers from the prison of those carnal thoughts. Overall, the dirt on the clothes could be your internal struggles that God is currently washing out of your life.

The Biblical Dream Meaning of Dirty Clothes

In Isaiah 64:6, the actions of the unrighteous and those with unclean hearts are “filthy rags” or dirty clothing.

In Zechariah 3:3-5, an angel commanded Joshua to remove his filthy clothing that represented sin. According to Enduring Word, “Satan must have been pointing to those [filthy clothes] and declaring forcefully that Joshua was unfit to stand before the Lord in this office.” Fortunately, the Angel made him worthy by giving him clean clothing. The clothing switch represents purification and right standing with God.

Jesus also went through this spiritual change: “His clothes became dazzling white, whiter than anyone in the world could bleach them.” (Mark 9:3)

The Word Makes You Clean

Reading and believing the word of God makes us clean. This is why Apostle Paul wrote 10 books in the New Testament to promote purity within the church. Paul had a mission to prepare the Body of Christ for Jesus’ return.

Paul stated, “I am jealous for you with a godly jealousy. I promised you to one husband, to Christ, so that I might present you as a pure virgin to him.” (2 Corinthians 11:2) This statement isn’t about physical virginity, but about an inward state of righteousness which is pleasing to God.

Overall, you must believe that Jesus’ death was powerful enough to wash your filthy clothes (sins). Unfortunately, the biggest lie that Christians believe is that they have to stay stuck in sin and shame.

Then, "rise and be baptized and wash away your sins, calling on his name." (Acts 22:16)

Here are few statements to embrace your inheritance in Christ:

  1. True faith in God’s power and biblical promises will bring the biggest breakthrough. “So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” (Romans 10:17) (Read more)
  2. The ability to escape sin is possible with the Holy Spirit. God is preparing us to be a virgin (pure and spotless) bride on the day of his return. (1 Corinthians 10:13Revelation 19:7-91 John 1:9)
  3. God’s love, forgiveness, and purification are free gifts through Jesus Christ. You can’t earn free gifts. You just believe and accept. (Ephesians 2:8-10)
  4. Unbearable fasts and prayers won’t earn you the free gift of purity and forgiveness.
  5. You are BLESSED not cursed. God will turn EVERY bad situation around for your good. (Romans 8:28)
  6. Conviction and condemnation are not the same. You can feel remorse for sin, but you shouldn’t believe God loves you less because of it. Jesus didn’t die for you to have painful flashbacks and burdensome shame. (1 John 3:32 Corinthians 7:10)
